FLYERS SWEPT IN SEASON-OPENING DOUBLEHEADER AT WOFFORD

Feb. 10, 2007

SPARTANBURG, SC - Despite a big day from sophomore Jeff Mercer in his return to the Flyer lineup, Dayton dropped both games of a season-opening doubleheader at Wofford on Saturday. UD lost the opener, 4-3 and fell in the second game, 7-4.

Mercer combined to finish 5-for-8 with three doubles, two RBI and a run scored in the doubleheader for the Flyers. The sophomore first baseman played in his first game since the 2005 season. He took the 2006 off to spend time at home with his brother, Daniel, who died on May 29, 2006 after a long illness following a brain tumor.

UD nearly fought off two different one-run deficits in the opener before falling, 4-3. Click here for a complete recap.

Then after falling behind 3-0 after the first inning, Dayton scored a run in the third and two more in the fifth before falling, 7-4. Click here for a complete recap.

The Flyers and Terriers will conclude their three-game series on Sunday with a nine-inning game beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Fans can follow the action with live stats at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
