Fort Myers, FL - The Dayton Flyers continued their spring break surge on Tuesday with a 7-0 dismantling of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The shutout win was the first of the season for UD as the team pushed its record to 7-9 overall.
Dayton won a season-high six singles matches in the effort.
Senior Tom Murphy (13-3) bounced back from a two match losing streak at first singles as he dispatched UWGB's Tim Prudlow 6-2, 6-1.
Junior James O'Connell (10-5) then scored another point for the Flyers with his tenth singles win of the spring, 6-3, 6-3 over Mark Goldin.
At third singles, freshman Michael Rohana (3-9) secured another match for the Flyers. The rookie won his second straight contest -- this one in dominating fashion -- 6-0, 6-0 to top UWGB's Matt Clegg.
The Flyers also recorded wins at fourth and fifth singles from senior Rex Cabrera (8-6) and freshman Matt Sherman (4-12).
The Phoenix nearly got on the board at sixth singles, but Dayton's David Peyton (6-8) was able to quell Mat Weiss' rally in a three-set tie-breaker, 1-6, 7-6 (2), 10-4.
Dayton moves on to play the hosting university, Florida Gulf Coast, today at 4:30 p.m. EST.
