The University of Dayton softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against IUPUI on Tuesday as Blair Crabtree hit her first homerun of the year to lead UD to victory in game one (3-2). The Flyers fell in game two 5-4 to the Jaguars at UD Softball Stadium in the team's home opening games of the year.
Dayton is now 4-12 overall and 0-2 in the Atlantic 10.
Junior Christine Eggers went 3-for-6 with three runs on the day as sophomore Mollie Schrank went 4-for-7 collecting one run.
In game one, the Jags picked up two runs in the third to start things off as Mia Ettl singled and then stole second base. Sarah Needy tripled to right field to earn an RBI as Ettl scored. A Jenna Crockett single to left field scored Needy as she earned the RBI.
A pair of singles from Eggers and Sheena Rothwell got the Flyers started in the fifth as Crabtree followed with a three run homerun for the 3-2 lead as UD held on to win the game.
Crabtree went 2-for-3 in game one while UD pitcher Chelsea Grozenski earned the game one win scattering seven hits and striking out three to improve to 2-5 on the year.
In game two, both teams started the scoring off early each collecting two runs in the first for a tie score of 2-2.
In the Flyers second, Eggers and Schrank both hit back-to-back singles. Eggers went to third on Schrank's single and would later score on a pass ball.
IUPUI scored two more runs in the third to take the 4-3 lead. The Jags added one more in the fourth.
In the bottom of the seventh, after a Schrank groundout Crabtree doubled off the centerfield wall and would later score on a Kellough single to right, but the rally would fall short as Laura Matthews would fly out to left field to end the game.
Kellough went for 3-for-4 with two RBI's in game two.
