University of Dayton senior tennis player Tom Murphy made history Thursday when he became the first UD student-athlete to be named first team all-conference in all four of his seasons. In addition to Murphy, two other Flyers - junior James O'Connell and freshman Michael Rohanna - were named Second Team All-Atlantic 10.
Murphy finished the year 26-6 playing #1 singles this year for UD, his best season in terms of winning percentage (.813). With records of 20-15 as a freshman, 21-8 in his sophomore season and 10-4 last year, the Carmel, Indiana native finished with a career record of 77-33. He was also 18-13 in doubles in 2007, including 17-11 pairing with O'Connell.
Murphy is just the seventh Atlantic 10 player to be named first team All-10 four times.
O'Connell was 19-12 in singles in 2006-07, playing primarily at #2 singles. Rohanna was 13-15 in singles (mostly at #3) and 12-13 in doubles play. He won six of his last seven singles matches, including all three at last week's A-10 Championships.
Head coach Steve Brumbaugh's team loses just Murphy and fellow senior Rex Cabrera from this year's 13-12 team.
