Aug. 1, 2007

Women's soccer sophomore Lauren MacCormick led her club team to the national championship game, helping the Carmel United Cyclones to the U-19 United States Youth Soccer Association National Championship on Sunday, July 29.

The USYSA Championships are held annually at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, TX, the home of Major League Soccer's FC Dallas.

"Winning a national championship feels like a perfect way to end the past ten years I've spent playing club soccer," said MacCormick. "It's definitely one of the memories I won't forget, and it's one of the accomplishments that can never be taken away."

Carmel took the title with a 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten PWSI Cardinals of Virginia and Region 1. The Cyclones scored six goals and allowed just four in its four games at the national championships.

MacCormick scored a goal in the third game of the national tournament, and had an assist in the championship game.

Carmel United advanced to nationals by emerging as the champions at the Region 2 Championships at the end of June. In the preliminary round in Texas, Carmel went 1-1-1, winning its opening match and then clinching a spot in the finals with a 3-3 tie with the Cardinals.
