Sept. 10, 2007

Atlantic 10 Volleyball

The University of Dayton volleyball team improved two spots in this week's CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll to a program-best No. 21. UD freshman middle blocker Lindsay Fletemier was also named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Monday.

The Flyers are off to their best start in school history (Division I only) at 10-0 and are one of seven teams in the Top 25 Poll still undefeated. Dayton was 4-0 last week with wins over Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Jacksonville and Radford. UD has now earned votes in seven polls during the last five years including three of four weeks this season. After earning no votes in the 2007 Preseason Poll, Dayton had two votes on Sept. 3 and was ranked No. 23 with 169 votes last Monday.

Fletemier earned her second Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor in three weeks. The 6-6 middle blocker hit a team-high .453 with 2.70 kills per game and 1.00 blocks per game which ranked third and second on the squad respectively. Overall this season, Fletemier leads UD in hitting percentage at .309 while ranking second in kills per game (2.89) and blocks per game (1.03). She was also named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Aug. 27.

The Flyers return to action this weekend with a trio of matches at the Towson Invitational. UD faces Western Kentucky on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET. On Saturday, Dayton takes on UMBC at 12:30 p.m. ET and host Towson at 7 p.m. ET.
