DAYTON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SIGNS THREE IN EARLY PERIOD

DAYTON, Ohio - Head women's basketball coach Jim Jabir has announced the signing of three players for the 2009-2010 season. Kari Daugherty (Warsaw, Ohio), Sam MacKay (Dublin, Ohio) and Olivia Applewhite (Greenbelt, Maryland) have all signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Flyers next fall.

"I feel that this new class is much like the classes we've brought in before as far as character," said Jabir. "I think they will fit in nicely on how we play and I think they will contribute to our continued success."

The sister of Dayton's lone returning starter Kristin Daugherty, Kari Daugherty will join the roster from River View High School in the 2009-2010 season. Daugherty has helped lead her team to back-to-back state championship titles in 2005-06 and 2006-07. She was the State Tournament MVP in 05-06 and the Tournament Co-MVP in 06-07 and is a two-time First Team ECOL and Eastern District Team selection. Daugherty also earned ECOL Second Team and Eastern District Second Team honors in 2005-06. She has been named to the District 5 First Team all three years at River View. In addition, she was named Honorable Mention All-Ohio during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. Last season, she garnered First Team All-Ohio honors and was named the ECOL Player of the Year, Eastern District Player of the Year, and District 5 Player of the Year. In AAU action, Daugherty's team finished last season 26-1 winning the Blue Chip Tournament.

In her three years at Dublin Coffman, Sam MacKay has helped her high school basketball team to a 63-8 record, including an undefeated season in 2007-2008. During her junior season ('07-'08), MacKay was name First Team All-OCC, second team all-district, and All-Ohio honorable mention. The Dublin, Ohio native owns the school's career assists record (320), single season assists record (196), and single game assists record (13). MacKay also owns the school's record in steals with 140 heading into her senior year and is currently the record-holder for steals in a season with 79.

Olivia Applewhite hails from Greenbelt, Maryland where she was named an adidas Top 10 All-American all three seasons at Eleanor Roosevelt. During her junior year, she was named a Sporting News All-American and was selected to the All-County Second Team. The All-Met Honorable mention, helped lead her team to the state championship title in both the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.

The Flyers will are set to open the 2008-2009 season on the road in the World Vision Classic on Saturday, Nov. 15. Dayton will face tournament host No. 13 Texas at 7:30 p.m. ET in a game that can be followed with live stats at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
