DAYTON EARNS FIRST A-10 WIN; SPLITS WITH TEMPLE

March 29, 2008

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Flyers picked up their first win in the Atlantic 10 in a 7-0 shutout over the Temple Owls at UD Softball Stadium in Dayton, Ohio.

"Our offense really turned it on the second game," said coach Cara Clark. "The offensive execution was there for us."

Eva Rappe pitched a complete game in the win for her seventh of the season. Rappe also struck out four batters in the game and allowed only one walk.

"Eva pitched great for us today with her shutout," said Clark.

Molly Meyer was 4-for-4 and had three runs in the victory. She also nabbed two bases during the game.

"Molly was really the spark for us today with her ability to get on base four times," said Clark.

The Flyers poured it on from the opening inning thanks in part to Blair Crabtree's double to bring home leadoff hitter Meyer.

In the second inning, the Flyers added three runs with two of them coming off of Mollie Schrank's single. Meyer then added to her stolen base total nabbing home on a double steal to give Dayton a 4-0 advantage.

With a tight grip on the lead, senior catcher, Laura Matthews drove a double to put her in scoring position. The designated player Allie Falk stepped in and knocked a triple bringing Matthews home.

"Laura Matthews played well for us with a couple of big doubles," said Clark.

Dayton added two more in the sixth making it a 7-0 ball game that the Owls were unable to recover from.

The Flyers were downed earlier in the day 3-2 despite piling up 7 hits. Erin Lafayette pitched a two-hitter for UD striking out four batters as well.

"You have to give Erin Lafayette a lot of credit for playing well in the first game" said Clark. "To hold off a team that scored 30 runs earlier this week is great."

Dayton is back in action against Saint Joseph's tomorrow at 11 a.m. in doubleheader action at the UD Softball Stadium. For the latest information on Flyer softball visit www.DaytonFlyers.com, the official home of the Dayton Flyers.
