April 26, 2008

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - Timely home runs lifted the Flyers over St. Bonaventure 5-3 in their second game against the Bonnies at UD Softball Stadium on Saturday. Both home runs were career firsts for Katie Jordan and Molly Meyer.

The dynamic duo both had identical batting averages, hitting .250 on the day and notching one homer apiece. In addition, Meyer and Jordan tag-teamed for three total RBI's in the game.

Erin Lafayette went 1-1 on Saturday notching her 10th win of the season, a career best. LaFayette also struck out eight in both games recording her 101st strikeout of the season, another career best.

"Erin's pitching today was really the spark for our team," said head coach Cara Clark. "Her ability to keep batters off balance today and lead the team was really a factor."

Dayton got off to an early 2-0 start in the first inning after a double steal by Mollie Schrank and Meyer. Blair Crabtree stepped in and smacked a double for the Flyers to bring home Meyer.

The Bonnies responded in the top of the fourth on a double by Stephanie Narde to score two runners. Ashley Kotz then drove in one more run to give St. Bonaventure a 3-2 lead.

With one runner out and their backs against the wall, Jordan stepped up to the plate and smacked a solo home run of the left field wall. The blast was the first of her collegiate career and enough to force the game into extra innings.

The Bonnies walked Jordan in the bottom of the tenth, and she would move into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt by Schrank. The Flyers finally captured the win on a walk-off homer by Meyer over deep centerfield to score both her and Jordan.

Dayton fell in the first game 5-0 in part to a five run sixth inning by SBU. The Flyers combined for three hits and three errors in the loss.

The Flyers continue to chase the final spot in the Atlantic 10 tournament with their win over St. Bonaventure. Dayton is 20-29 and 7-11 in the A-10 and will host the Saint Louis Billikens on senior day next Saturday at Noon. For all of the latest on Flyer softball visit www.DaytonFlyers.com
