TERRE HAUTE, Indiana - The University of Dayton Flyers were swept on Tuesday by the Indiana State Sycamores in a doubleheader at Price Field.

The Flyers were downed 6-2 in the first game, and lost the second game 5-1 despite out-hitting the Sycamores 9-7.

Erin Lafayette picked up the first loss of the day after allowing 11 hits and striking out four. Eva Rappe collected the loss in game two after striking out six batters in five innings pitched.

Blair Crabtree racked up three hits on the day and drove in one runner. Laura Matthews complemented the effort going 3-for-7 and scoring one RBI.

Indiana State jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage in the second inning. The Flyers fired back in the third picking up two runs thanks in part to a base hit by Crabtree and then a ground out by Matthews.

The two tallies brought the Flyers within one run of the lead before Indiana State's Meredith Simpson hit a three run blast to seal UD's fate in the sixth inning.

In game two both teams seemed determined to pace each other. The Sycamores got on board early with a run in the first inning only to be matched by a run by Mollie Schrank in the third inning.

A pair of two run innings put Indiana State ahead and kept them ahead for the rest of the game, despite Dayton accumulating nine hits in the contest.

The Flyers will fly the friendly skies to the nation's capital on Saturday to face the George Washington Colonials at Noon in doubleheader action. For the latest information including news, notes and highlights visit www.DaytonFlyers.com.
