DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton men's cross country runner Chris Lemon has been selected as the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week for the fourth time this season as announced by the league Monday.
Lemon has earned the honor four out of the five weeks it has been awarded by the A-10. Last Friday, at the Notre Dame Invitational, Lemon established a school record time of 24:05 on the 8K course. He placed 10th out of 179 runners and led the Flyers to a 12th place finish in a challenging 23-team field.
The men's cross country team competed in the meet's Blue Division Friday, which was limited to teams that were ranked in their respective regions and included nine nationally-ranked teams. UD's 12th-place finish included wins over Notre Dame (ranked 28th nationally and fifth in the Great Lakes Region) and Penn State (receiving the 35th-highest votes nationally and ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region).
With Dayton entering the meet ranked eighth in the Great Lakes Region, Friday's result was a big step in building UD's resume toward a potential at-large berth in this year's NCAA Championships. It was also the first time the a Flyer men's cross country team defeated Notre Dame, a \"first time\" made even more impressive given the fact that it occurred on ND's home course.
