OXFORD, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's soccer team is still unbeaten after a 2-1 win over Miami University Friday at Miami Soccer Field. Junior
Kelly Blumenschein and senior Mandi Back each scored for the Flyers.
UD scored two unanswered goals in the second period to improve to 4-0-4 on the season. UD is one of 20 teams of more than 300 in Division I women's college soccer that is unbeaten this year (compiled by College Soccer 360).
After a 0-0 tie in the first 45 minutes, the RedHawks got on the board first early in the second stanza in the 48th minute. After a ball bounced off a UD defender and deflected off the post Jess Kodiak was there to clean up and scored for MU on an empty net. It was the first goal the Flyer defense had allowed in more than 557 minutes.
"In the first half we created decent chances, but once again, couldn't do anything," said UD Head Coach
Mike Tucker. "Miami had quality players. And they had a decent attack of their own. Both teams had quality chances."
Blumenschein evened the score in the 69th minute beating the keeper, after getting the feed down the left side from freshman
Colleen Williams.
Back scored the game winner in the 81st minute after Williams slid a pass into the box.
"Colleen is so confident and skillful for a freshman," said Tucker. "She was quite the creator of some great chances. Kelly was playing up top and normally plays out wide. She was in front of the goal and patient on her score.
"We do so well when the girls are patient, they get it in the final third and work together," added Tucker. "We pressed the goal until the end."
The Flyers outshot Miami 20-10, and are now outshooting opponents 207-60 on the season.
