FLYERS' 12-GAME WIN STREAK ENDS WITH 2-1 LOSS TO BONNIES

Boxscore

OLEAN, N.Y. –  The University of Dayton women’s soccer team saw its 12-game win streak come to an end after suffering a 2-1 loss to St. Bonaventure Sunday at McGraw-Jennings Field.

The Bonnies  (10-7-0, 4-3-0 Atlantic 10), celebrating their senior day, earned their first win over the Flyers in 14 tries (UD is now 11-1-2 all-time against SBU). St. Bonaventure also dealt Dayton its first A-10 regular season loss since 2008.

“We played a team on senior day that was inspired and worked really hard,” said UD Head Coach Mike Tucker. “We were lethargic and we didn’t play hard until we went a man down.”

Dayton, which can still earn at least a share of the regular season title with a win over Xavier next Friday, has earned a first-round bye in their conference-record 15th consecutive tournament appearance.

Senior Jerica DeWolfe got the Flyers (15-3-0, 7-1-0 A-10) started off with a goal in the eighth minute of the match. Sophomore Colleen Williams set her up and DeWolfe finished with a shot under the crossbar. It was DeWolfe’s fifth goal of the season.

“Jerica’s goal was a wonderful goal,” said Tucker. “We just got fat and happy on that early goal.”

The Bonnies’ Hannah Lapp converted a penalty kick in the 31st minute after a red card was called on Dayton’s Alysha Mallon for a handball in the box. The Flyers played a man down for the nearly-60 minutes remaining in the match.

Anna Cunningham scored the game-winner for SBU seven minutes later.

Senior Lisa Rodgers had eight saves in goal for UD, but suffered her first loss of the season (11-1).

Dayton plays at Xavier on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
