UD ATHLETICS LAUNCHES THE CHAMPIONS & SCHOLARS FUND

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Athletics Division has announced the launch of the Dayton Flyers Champions and Scholars Fund, a comprehensive annual fund-raising initiative. The Champions and Scholars Fund seeks private support to increase resources for the entire athletics program.

"You don’t have to follow the sports pages very closely to know there is no such thing as a status quo in college athletics,” UD Vice-President and Director of Athletics Tim Wabler said. "For us to continue our academic and athletic success, and more importantly, move forward in changing times, we have to have the funding available to make this possible. The Champions and Scholars Fund will be an important way for individuals to join us to secure a bright and promising future for Flyer athletics."

The purpose of the Champions and Scholars Fund is to provide and enhance opportunities for over 400 University of Dayton student-athletes on 17 teams. The goal is to increase revenue by way of annual gifts, which will be put to use immediately to advance the athletic program in the areas of scholarships, operational expenses and facility enhancements. The increased resources generated by the Champions and Scholars Fund help improve the athletic department’s standing on a national level of and increase visibility for the University of Dayton.

Active membership in the Champions and Scholars Fund can be obtained with a minimum annual $100 gift to an athletic designated account, which includes sport programs and existing scholarships. Members will receive tangible benefits based on their giving level which includes electronic correspondence, invitations to events, commemorative items and decals. The program will run on a fiscal year that begins on July 1 and ends on June 30. Individuals can make commitments on-line, through the mail or over the phone.

"With this initial launch, we will be reaching out through many mediums to our alumni base, the Dayton community and the Flyer Faithful across the country,” Brian Tracy, UD’s Athletic Development Officer said. “We will ask individuals for their support on behalf of the athletics program in a scale never attempted before. Our goal is create an opportunity for these groups to support the Flyers regardless of where they call home."
