SEASON IN REVIEW
UD Cross Country looks to cap off an impressive 2025 season on Saturday, one that saw several strong performances from both the men and the women.
The men's season was boosted by the emphatic return of Senior Owen Pukys. After missing the entirety of last season, Pukys has had a historic year for the Flyers, highlighted by his shattering of the 8k school record in Louisville. He also picked up his first collegiate victory at Western Michigan and finished seventh overall in a stacked field at Bradley.
As a whole, the men's team has performed well all year, having not finished lower than eighth in any meets thus far. The season opener at Miami saw the Flyers finish second with five PRs and five runners making their college cross country debuts. At Western Michigan, UD finished third with PRs from Pukys and Sophomores Logan Arnold and Gerrit Dam. In the largest meet of the season at Louisville, Dayton finished eighth, a strong performance highlighted by Pukys's school record and Freshman Kamden Kramer running the 14th fastest time in school history. The Flyers then finished eighth once again at Bradley, with senior Noah Clemens setting a new personal record in his first meet of the season. Finally, three Flyers competed at Wright State last week, where Sophomore Jacob Herzog picked up his first win.
The women also had a strong season, finishing in the top 15 of every race that they competed in.
The season began at Miami, where two PRs from Junior Bryn Hothem and Sophomore Mia Gill, as well as four collegiate debuts, propelled the Flyers to a runner-up finish. In the second meet of the season, Hothem and Senior Marissa Pritchett both finished in the top 15, and Gill once again PRd as the Flyers finished fourth at Western Michigan. In Louisville, Hothem and Pritchett both finished in the top 50 and set new PRs. Freshmen Addison Stephens and Abigail Jordan, Junior Anna Newkirk, and Gill also set new personal bests to help Dayton finish 13th in the 31-team field. 4 Flyers set PRs at Bradley, highlighted by Freshman Addison Stephens, who earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors for her performance. Three runners competed at Wright State last weekend, where sophomore Sarah Haunn set a new PR.
