AVCA Top-25 (Week 10)
LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Dayton volleyball remained at No. 17 for the second straight week in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll released on Monday. It is the highest ranking for the Flyers during its current 14 consecutive weeks in the poll.
Dayton (20-3, 11-0 Atlantic 10) extended its winning streak to 15 matches, reached 20 wins for the 10th consecutive season and clinched a spot in the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championships over the weekend. Last Friday, the Flyers swept Xavier at home and defeated George Washington on the road, 3-1.
Despite remaining at the same position in the polls, UD saw an increase in the voters’ point total to 537 – up from 526 last week. Prior to its current 14-week stand in the polls, which started Nov. 23 of last season, Flyer volleyball had been ranked in the top 25 for a combined 15 weeks. Dayton’s highest position in the AVCA Top-25 is No. 12 during the week of Oct. 15, 2007.
UD’s 15-match winning streak is tied for the sixth-longest in the country with No. 1 Florida (20-1) which received 47 of the 60 first-place votes to remain the poll’s highest ranked team. Dayton has played four ranked teams in this week’s poll, including top 10 teams No. 5 Nebraska and No. 6 Illinois.
Two regular season matches remain on the Flyers’ home schedule, starting with La Salle this Friday at 7 p.m. in the Frericks Center. On Sunday Dayton travels to Charlotte, N.C., to face Charlotte at 1 p.m. The final home match of the season is Sunday, Nov. 14 against Saint Louis beginning at 2 p.m.
