PEARSON AND PICARD NAB SECOND TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton junior defenseman Jack Pearson and junior goalkeeper Tyler Picard have been named to the Atlantic 10’s All-Conference Second Team, while senior defender Tommy Watkins was picked as an honorable mention. It was announced by the A-10 on Wednesday.

Picard had a career-best eight shutouts in 2010 while posting one of the lowest goals against averages in the conference at 0.79. His shutout total also leads the A-10. Picard played every minute of every game for the Flyers this year.

Pearson was a pivotal force for Dayton’s defense. He showed versatility with six points on the year, scoring two goals and two assists. Additionally, he helped Picard to his shutout mark set this season.

Watkins is the senior leader of this year’s squad. He was selected as both an honorable mention for all-conference selection and was one of 11 players voted to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Men’s Soccer Team. Watkins led UD in scoring with eight points (3 goals and 2 assists). Additionally, he was named CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District last week. Watkins was also a Lowe’s Senior CLASS candidate.

Sophomore Nate Dombrowski was also named academic all-conference.  He had one assist on the season, and was also a First Team Academic All-District selection for the Flyers.

Dayton finished the season with a 7-8-3 record and a 3-4-2 conference mark. The Flyers graduate just two regular starters including Watkins and graduate student Oskar Kretzinger.
