BASEBALL RECEIVING VOTES IN NCBWA POLL

DAYTON, Ohio -- The University of Dayton baseball team is one of four Atlantic 10 schools receiving votes in the National College Baseball Writers Association preseason poll.

The poll, which is conducted by the NCBWA, is voted on by writers, broadcasters and publicists of collegiate baseball. This is the second poll that Dayton has received votes in this season. The Flyers also received votes in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll earlier this spring. Additionally, UD was also picked to finish first in the Atlantic 10.

Last season the Flyers finished with a 38-19 record, while capturing the program’s first A-10 regular season championship. Dayton hammered a program-record 77 home runs while leading the conference in batting average (.332).

Dayton has an array of talent coming back this season. Among the returnees are: A-10 Rookie of the Year Cameron Hobson, who set the school record with 83 strikeouts in a season. Right-handed pitcher Burny Mitchem who was 1-0 in three starts before an injury sidelined him for the remainder of the year. Senior second baseman Zach Jacob finished second in the conference in hits and runs. The threatening bats of junior Jimmy Roesinger (.406) and senior Cole Tyrell, the Flyers’ leader in home runs (12) and RBI (60) also return for 2010.

The Flyers open the season on the road against the Army Black Knights on Friday, Feb. 19 and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday, Feb. 20 and Sunday, Feb. 21 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Dayton is scheduled to play its home-opener on Friday, March 12, hosting the Indiana State Sycamores at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
