DAYTON, Ohio - On a day where the Dayton Flyers honored the Class of 2010, it was a member of the Class of 2013 that stole the show.
Freshman Amanda Daly threw a one-hit shutout in game two as the Flyers split with the St. Bonaventure Bonnies winning game two 7-0, but falling in game one 7-2.
Between the two games Daly threw 11 scoreless innings striking out seven batters and allowing just three hits. Daly picked up her fifth win of the season and her first career collegiate shutout.
“We are definitely pleased with the performance in the circle by our freshman,” Head Coach Cara Clark-LaPlaca said. “She threw a complete game and threw some good innings before that. We are happy with her progress.”
Not to be outdone though was senior Molly Meyer who became Dayton’s all-time hits leader. Meyer tallied her 185th career hit after a 2-for-4 performance in game one and batting 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in the second game.
Meyer, who is also UD’s all-time leader in stolen bases, broke the hit record with a single up the middle in the sixth inning of game two.
“Molly Meyer has had a great career,” Clark-LaPlaca said. “She has been a consistent part of our lineup and a solid leader in her four years here. We were definitely pleased she was able to go out of her career on top. We are really proud of her accomplishments.”
Another senior, Anne Maci, also enjoyed a great game two recording a home run and three RBI while going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Sophomore Brandy Brown also had a home run and three RBI in game two for the Flyers.
In game one, the Bonnies scored three in the first and four runs in the second to jump out to a 7-1 advantage. Lee provided an early spark with a solo home run in the second inning and Maci had an RBI groundout to highlight the Flyer offense.
For Lee it was her fifth homer of the season, putting her in sole possession of second place on the Flyers.
Game two was a different story for the UD offense as the Flyers cranked out 10 hits and scored six runs in the third inning. In that second game, Alicia Nichols went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Lauren Nacke batted 1-for-3 with a run scored.
“We were pleased about how our offense came around in the second game and took advantage of opportunities with runners on base,” Clark-LaPlaca said.
That early cushion was more than enough for Daly who retired 14 of her last 16 batters faced.
With the split, Dayton moves to 16-32-1 overall and 4-10 in the Atlantic 10.
Dayton returns to A-10 action on Saturday, May 1 with a doubleheader against the Rhode Island Rams. The twin bill begins at noon ET.
