2010-11 FLYER MEN'S GOLF SCHEDULE RELEASED

After looking back on his first season at the helm of the University of Dayton Men’s Golf program, head coach Gip Hoagland knew that placing an emphasis on quality tournaments would help the Flyers’ chances of earning the program’s first Atlantic 10 Championship

With a conference title in mind for 2010-11, the Flyers will play in four new tournaments in the upcoming campaign. The four new events include competitive stops at Michigan State, Purdue, Cincinnati and a Florida invitational hosted by Xavier.

“Our schedule has a couple of new sites in addition to many of the same events we have played the last couple of years," said Hoagland. "We feel it will challenge our players and prepare us for the Atlantic 10 Championship and postseason play.  Each golf course is outstanding and the fields at each event will provide great competition.”

The Flyers open the fall season Sept. 11 and 12 at the Fossum/Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State. The Fossum/Spartan Invitational began in 1966 and annually draws some of the top collegiate golfing talent in the nation to the Forest Akers West Course.

Dayton will then head to the John Piper Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green State. This will be the fourth consecutive season Dayton will participate in the invitational.

Up next for UD will be a trip down to Fort Myers, Fla., as Dayton will compete in the Renaissance Invitational. The two-day event is hosted by Xavier will take place from Oct. 3 and 4.

The Flyers return home to play in the Bearcat Invitational on Oct. 11 and 12. Hosted by Cincinnati, the tournament will take place at the Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky.

The Flyers will then cap the two-month stretch hosting the UD Fall Invitational on Oct. 18 and 19 at the historic NCR Country Club. This will be the third time in the last four seasons the Flyers will host their invitational.

Dayton opens the spring season looking to defend their title at the Butler Spring Invitational. The defending champs will compete on March 28-29.

The Flyers then head back to Kentucky to participate in the UK Bluegrass Invitational on April 9-10. This will be the third consecutive season UD will have competed in the tournament.

The last two tournaments in the month of April feature the Flyers at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational from April 16-17 and the Boilermaker Invitational on April 23-24.

UD will wrap up the season at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf Championship. The three-day event will take place from May 6-8 at the Mission Inn Golf Resort in Howie-In-The-Hills, Fla.

Dayton concluded the 2009-10 season with a fourth-place finish at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf Championship. The Flyers return eight golfers from last season including First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection Sean Keating.
