NEW ORLEANS – The University of Dayton women’s track and field team was named as one of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s 2010 All-Academic Teams. It was announced by the association on Wednesday. It is the third consecutive season that Dayton has been honored.
The Flyers earned a 3.35 cumulative GPA, the highest of any Atlantic 10 school named to the list. The Flyers also ranked 37th overall among 151 Division I programs earning the accolade. A total of eight A-10 schools were recognized on the list.
To be nominated for the award, a team must carry a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average.
Women’s track member Ashley Cattran was named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American and was selected as the A-10’s Student-Athlete of the Year in the spring. With a 3.989 GPA, she is one of nine UD track and field student-athletes to carry a 3.75 cumulative GPA or higher.
Dayton finished the 2009-10 season with a pair of Top 20 national finishes (Mallory Barnes – Hammer Throw, Katie Nageotte – Pole Vault) for the first time in program history.
