CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Dayton men’s soccer team (5-13, 4-4) was blanked by No. 16 Charlotte, 1-0, on Sunday at Transamerica Field.
“We were under a lot of pressure. I thought we weathered the storm for the most part,” Dayton Head Coach
Dennis Currier said. “You have to give a lot of credit to Charlotte; they were able to get the critical goal.”
Charlotte’s Tyler Gibson scored the lone goal of the match in the 78th minute, finishing the ball in the back left corner from T.J. Beaulieu and Isaac Caughran.
The Flyers had a chance to score the equalizer when senior defender Jack Pearson headed a ball towards the net. However, Charlotte goalkeeper Klay Davis made the stop with 20 seconds left to preserve his shutout.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alec Storm made eight saves for Dayton.
“Our last game is going to be key,” Currier said. “We will focus on finishing on a high note for the regular season.”
Dayton returns home for its final regular season match, hosting the Xavier Musketeers at Baujan Field on Saturday night at 5 p.m. Saturday will also be the Flyers’ senior day.
