OLEAN, N.Y. – The University of Dayton women’s basketball team came from behind to knock off St. Bonaventure 87-80 in overtime Wednesday at the Reilly Center. Junior Justine Raterman had a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Flyers. The victory gave Dayton Head Coach
Jim Jabir the 350th of his career.
It marks UD’s fifth consecutive victory to help the Flyers improve to 15-7 overall and 6-2 in Atlantic 10 play. This is also Dayton’s first win on the road against the Bonnies since 2000.
Redshirt sophomore Brittany Wilson tied a career-high with 16 points and also added a season-high eight rebounds for Dayton. Junior De’Sarae Chambers scored a season-high 16 points and junior Patrice Lalor chipped in 14 points, including 7-of-7 from the free throw line in the final 2:38 of overtime, and she also had a game-high seven assists.
Lalor had a steal with 40 seconds left in overtime to secure the win for the Flyers.
Raterman scored on a layup with eight seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 70-all and Megan Van Tatenhove, who scored a game- and career-high 35 points, missed a jumper at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
The Flyers started the game slow, fell behind 7-0 and didn’t score their first basket until junior Patrice Lalor sank a three-pointer nearly three minutes (17:22) into the game. Raterman’s layup with 12:47 left in the half gave UD its first lead, 12-10. Dayton led by as many as six, 30-24 on a trey by Raterman at the 4:18 mark, but Van Tatenhove knocked down a jumper with three seconds to play to cut the Flyer lead to 34-32 at the half.
Raterman led the way at the half with 14 points. Wilson tallied five points and five rebounds in 10 minutes of action.
