NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –
The University of Dayton tied for third with five other squads in the final Atlantic 10 standings, and received the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship. The Flyers will square off against No. 11-seed George Washington in the opening round on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The winner goes on to face No. 3 seed Duquesne on Saturday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

For the second time in the 29-year history of the Championship, the tournament will be played at a neutral site beginning Friday, March 4 at The Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell in Lowell, Mass. The Championship features 12 teams vying for the A-10 title and the automatic berth into the 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.

The top four seeds earn a first-round bye in the Championship. No. 6/6 Xavier (25-2/14-0) captured the Atlantic 10 regular season title and the Conference’s top seed. Temple (22-7/13-1) earned the second seed in the tournament outright, while Charlotte (21-8/9-5), Dayton (18-10/9-5), Duquesne (22-7/9-5), Richmond (18-10/9-5) and St. Bonaventure (19-10/9-5) all tied for third place. By virtue of the league’s tie-breaking procedures, Duquesne claimed the third seed and Richmond rounds out the first round byes as the fourth seed. The four teams will all begin play in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 5.

Saint Joseph’s (18-10/8-6) earned the eighth seed and La Salle (10-19/6-8), which will make its first appearance in the Championship since 2007, is the ninth seed. Fordham (12-18/4-10) is the 10th seed, while George Washington (8-20/3-11) and Massachusetts (7-22/3-11) tied for the 11th seed with matching 3-11 A-10 marks. The Colonials defeated the Minutewomen, 62-46, earlier this season and are therefore the 11th seed and UMass earns the 12th and final spot.

First round action commences with a doubleheader at noon on Friday, March 4, as No. 8 Saint Joseph’s takes on No. 9 La Salle and No. 5 Charlotte faces No. 12 Massachusetts. Friday evening’s doubleheader tips off at 5 p.m. with No. 7 St. Bonaventure taking on No. 10 Fordham, followed by No. 6 Dayton squaring off against No. 11 George Washington. Quarterfinal round action begins at noon on Saturday as top-seeded Xavier faces either No. 8 Saint Joseph’s or No. 9 La Salle.

Sunday's semifinal contests will begin at noon on March 6, and televised nationally on CBS College Sports, while the title game of the 2011 A-10 Championship on Monday, March 7, will be shown live on ESPN2 at 5 p.m.
