COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Dayton Flyers came from behind to beat the Ohio State Buckeyes 6-4 on Friday at Buckeye Field.

Dayton (22-24) rallied after an hour long lightning delay. Junior Lauren Nacke was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Senior Emily Stegeman was 1-for-3 with a clutch two-out, two-RBI double. Kasi Vazquez, Brandy Brown and Kathleen Maloof each had one RBI. Brown opened the scoring for UD with a solo home run and Maloof capped the scoring also with a solo home run.

Junior Sarah Wedel earned the win. Wedel is 7-5 this season and struck out one while allowing two earned runs. Freshman Alysha Isaacson tied UD’s school save record with her third of the season. She is now tied with sophomore Amanda Daly (2010) and Eva Rappe (2008).

Just three days off of losing her mother to cancer, Ohio State junior Alicia Herron opened Friday’s game with a two-run home run in the first inning.

Dayton’s Brandy Brown homered in the top of the second. Brown ripped a solo home run over the left center field wall to pull Dayton within one run.

Stegeman hit a key two-out, two-RBI double in the fourth inning to pull UD ahead 3-2. Following the offensive surge, a ightning caused a 1 hour, 10 minute delay just as Isaacson took the circle to begin the bottom half of the fourth inning.

The Buckeyes capitalized on the break, tripling on a 1-0 pitch from Wedel. Megan Coletta tied the game on an RBI single to center field in the next at-bat.

Ohio State scored again on Evelyn Carrillo’s base hit in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead.

Nacke scored on Courtney Kutsulis’ sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to knot the game at four apiece. The Flyers took a 5-4 lead on a base hit to center field, which scored Shelby Pohlman who pinch ran for Brown.

Maloof added to her career-best home run total with her ninth of the season on a solo home run that just cleared the left field wall as the Flyers added an insurance run, 6-4.

Dayton travels to Charlotte, N.C. for the Atlantic 10 Tournament next week. The Flyers will open the tournament on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. against either UMass or Saint Joseph’s. Dayton advanced to the tournament for the first time since 2000 when they beat Charlotte 5-4 on April 30.
