DAYTON, Ohio - The 15th ranked University of Dayton women's volleyball squad rolled to a sweep Saturday night over Duquesne, moving to 11-0 in Atlantic 10 play.
Overall, the Flyers hit for a lights-out .346 hitting percentage, while holding the Dukes to a .229 mark. Rachel Krabacher led the team with 18 kills and 14 digs. Isolde Hannan, Alaina Turner, and Megan Campbell all had double digit kills as well. Samantha Selsky posted a double-double of her own with 47 assists and 10 digs. Ally Morey and Janna Krafka chipped in 12 and 17 digs respectively.
Prior to the match, the Dayton volleyball program recognized the accomplishments of seniors Rachel Krabacher, Paige Vargas, and Samantha Selsky. The rest of the team wanted to send the seniors out and style and the Flyers got off to a fast start. Dayton led 7-2 in the early stages of the match and used that momentum to control the pace. The score was 22-15, forcing Duquesne to call a time out. By then, it was too late though as Dayton took set one, 25-18.
In the second set, the Dukes took an initial 3-2 lead. The Flyers were not giving in that easy though and used a 5-1 run to put the advantage back in their favor. Dayton led 22-16 down the stretch and eased their way to a 25-17 win in set No. 2. Freshman libero Janna Krafka really stepped up for the Flyers defensively with 13 digs through the first two sets.
The third set began with Dayton and Duquesne jockeying for position. The Flyers managed to take a 16-12 lead before extending their advantage to 19-13. Behind the veteran leadership of the senior class, Dayton took a 25-21 third set for their 11th straight victory of the season.
The Flyers are now 19-4 overall 11-0 in the A-10. Duquesne falls to 19-10 on the year and 6-5 in conference play.
Dayton returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Cincinnati in the Frericks Center for a non-conference match.
