FLYER FACTS
• The University of Dayton is coming off back-to-back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances after receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for winning their first ever Atlantic-10 Championship. For the first time in University of Dayton history the Flyers won their first A-10 Championship defeating St. Bonaventure 56-53 last season.
• With their 23-7 record it marked the fifth season in a row that the Flyers have won 20+ games.
• Dayton returns six letterwinners from a team that posted the best winning percentage in Head Coach Jim Jabir’s career and won a program-best 12 Atlantic 10 games (12-2) last season.
• UD lost seven seniors, including four starters, from the 2011-12 squad, but is replacing the loss with an impressive freshman class of six newcomers. This Flyer class is ranked 1st nationally for a non-BCS school, 31st overall and first in the Atlantic 10.
• Dayton received seven first-place votes and has been tabbed to win the Atlantic 10 this year, according to a vote of the league’s 16 head coaches. On the same ballot, the coaches selected the three preseason All-Conference teams. Dayton’s Andrea Hoover, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year, was selected as a Preseason First Team Selection and fellow sophomore Ally Malott was a second team selection.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
• Ashland returns four starters and 11 letterwinners from a team that posted a 32-2 overall record and was 19-0 in the GLIAC. The Eagles were also the NCAA D-II National Runners-up, falling in overtime to Shaw in the championship game
• Flyer fans will see a familar face today. Former Dayton basketball player Kari Daugherty transferred to Ashland last season. Daugherty, now a senior, put together one of the best seasons of any Division II player in history in 2011-12 for AU. She led the nation in rebounding (14.1 rpg.) and double-doubles (27). She averaged 21.3 ppg., shot 50.3 percent from the floor and 84.1 percent from the free throw line. She was a first team All-American and is the WBCA NCAA Division II National Player of the Year.
• AU Head Coach Sue Ramsey was inducted into Miami’s Cradle of Coaches in September of 2012. Ramsey has a career record of 382-326 and at Ashland is 287-195 in 17 seasons. She is AU’s career leader in victories and she has led the Eagles to four, 20-win seasons. Under Ramsey, AU has gone to the NCAA Division II playoffs three times. She earned her master’s degree in educational administration from Dayton in 1988.
