NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced their end of the season awards Thursday and recognized five Flyers and head coach Kelly Sheffield for their achievements this year.
Senior outside hitter Rachel Krabacher was named A-10 Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, while senior setter Samantha Selsky was named Setter of the Year for the second time as well. Coach Sheffield was named Coach of the Year in the conference after leading the UD squad to a regular season championship, a 14-0 conference mark, and a 23-4 record overall.
Junior middle blocker Megan Campbell joined Krabacher and Selsky on the First Team All-Conference squad. Freshmen Alaina Turner and Janna Krafka were both named to the All-Rookie team for their efforts this season as well.
Krabacher led the A-10 in kills per set this season with 4.62, Selsky led the league in assists with 11.53, and Campbell led the conference in hitting percentage with a .419 mark. Turner is third on the team in kills with 2.38 each set and Krafka is the dig-leader for Dayton with 4.19 per set.
Dayton has had the Player of the Year the past four seasons with Krabacher winning twice (2012, 2011) and Lindsay Fletemier winning twice (2010, 2009).
For the main awards in the A-10, Chelsea Tupuola of Temple was named Libero of the Year while Martina Samadan of VCU was named Rookie of the Year.
No. 12 Dayton will have a first-round bye in the Atlantic 10 tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa. before playing the winner of Duquesne and Temple on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
