KANSAS CITY - The University of Dayton men’s and women’s soccer programs have been selected to receive the 2011-12 National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.
The award is given by the NSCAA to any college that presented a 3.0 cumulative team grade point average during the 2011-
12 school year. A total of 717 teams were selected.
UD was one of 148 schools to earn honors in both the men’s and women’s program.
Dayton’s women’s program tallied a 3.34 grade point average during the 2011-12 school year, while the men’s program had
a 3.03 grade point average.
“I’ve been the head coach for 17 years and we’ve never had a team grade point average under 3.0 and that is a major focus
for us,” said women’s head coach Mike Tucker. “For us to earn this award, we’ve continued to perform well on and off the
field.”
“We have always emphasized a commitment to excellence in the classroom as we feel there is a direct correlation between
off field performance and on field performance,” said men’s head coach Dennis Currier. “Our program has been very
consistent in maintaining over a 3.0 GPA and we are proud of our team's accomplishment.”
Both programs have completed their seasons, with the women’s team finishing second in the Atlantic 10 with a mark of 7-1-
1 and an overall record of 14-4-1. The men’s team finished with a record of 11-5-2, including a conference record of 5-3-1.
