NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton’s Sam MacKay was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week for games played during the week of Nov. 26- Dec. 2.
MacKay had a career week for Dayton, averaging 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 4.0 steals, as the Flyers went 3-0 and captured their third in-season tournament title of the season at Arizona State. The Dublin, Ohio, native opened the week with a career-high 20 points on a career-high six 3-point field goals made, including nine points in the last seven minutes to break away from the Raiders. She was named MVP of the Arizona State Classic after she led UD to a pair of victories over UNLV (82-58) and the host Sun Devils (65-59) to claim the championship. She scored a team-high 18 points against the Lady Rebels and also had career-highs of eight rebounds and six steals, before registering 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals against ASU. She finished the week shooting 51 percent (19-37) from the field, 48 percent (10-21) from the beyond the arc and was perfect (7-7) at the line.
MacKay was also named College Sports Madness Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her exceptional performance. College Sports Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally each week.
She is the fourth Flyer to be honored in the four weeks the A-10 has handed out the awards. The first week Amber Deane was named Rookie of the Week, then Andrea Hoover was named Player of the Week and last week Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova was tabbed as Rookie of the Week.
No. 19 Dayton hosts Michigan State this Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. at UD Arena.
