AKRON, Ohio - The University of Dayton had strong performances at the University of Akron Indoor Track and Field Invitational Saturday.
The Flyer men broke a 16-year-old team record in the distance, medley relay and three runners posted personal best times.
“This was a very successful race for us overall,” said UD Head Coach
Rich Davis. “We had a long-standing record fall and we had several runners with very good performances.”
Senior Greg Roeth had a runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter Gold Division race, in a personal best time of 8:29.39.
Junior Stephen Mackell took third place of 20 runners in the Gold Division 5,000-meter race, after running it in a personal best (outdoor and indoor) time of 15:03.21.
The UD distance medley relay of junior Jeremy Schiele, sophomore Tyler Roeth and freshmen Michael Russell and Kevin Kluesener finished fourth in the Gold Division in a school-record time of 10:28.79. They took 11 seconds off the record that has stood since 1996 and this is how they did it:
