Series Preview
• Dayton will play its final A-10 Conference regular season series beginning on Thursday at La Salle.
• The Flyers have won three straight conference games after sweeping UMass on Senior Day weekend at Time Warner Cable Stadium last week.
• Senior right-handed pitcher Mike Hauschild will start on Thursday for the Flyers, followed by fellow senior righty Tim Bury. Hauschild leads the team 75 strikeouts on the season and needs just five strikeouts to rank second in career strikeouts at Dayton, entering with 252. Bury has won each of his last six starts on the mound and leads the A-10 in ERA during conference play (1.51).
• La Salle will start with two lefties on the mound on Thursday and Friday. Eric Van Wyk (3-7, 3.61 ERA) will start Thursday and Ryan Donahue (3-3, 2.84 ERA) will start Friday. Right-handed Kevin Christy (2-4, 2.67 ERA) will start the Explorers’ last game of the season on Saturday.
• Dayton is 8-10 against left-handed starters and 6-3 in conference road games this season.
Atlantic 10 Championship implications
• Dayton’s series against La Salle will have a large impact on the Flyers seeding in the Atlantic 10 Championship next weekend in New York, hosted by Fordham.
• Three wins this weekend for the Flyers would mean a share of the A-10 regular season title with Saint Louis (17-7), which have a conference bye this weekend (at Northwestern), and a No. 2 seed in the tournament field.
• Two wins and at least one loss for third-place Rhode Island (at Temple) would ensure a No. 2 seed. If Dayton and Rhode Island are tied in the final conference standings, it will come down to a tiebreaker comparing winning percentage against the highest common opponent in the final standings, since UD and URI did not play in head-to-head competition.
• UD would still earn a bid to the A-10 tourney with one or no wins this weekend.
