DAYTON WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENS A-10 PLAY THIS WEEKEND

The University of Dayton women's soccer team opens the 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference portion of its schedule at UMass this Friday.

THE SERIES
• The Flyers are 12-4 all-time against Massachusetts, including a 5-1 victory in last year’s Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship. • UD leads the all-time series against Rhode Island 12-3. Dayton last faced Rhode Island in 2010, picking up a 3-0 victory at Baujan Field.

FLYER FACTS
• Junior goalkeeper Jordin Melchert had 13 saves in UD’s 3-1 wins over Harvard and Northeastern,  including a career-high eight versus Harvard.
• The Flyers are outscoring opponents 26-15.
• Dayton is 6-3 on the season having won three consecutive matches.
• UD posted its first shutout of the season with its 3-0 victory over Wright State.
• The Flyers are outscoring opponents 26-15.
• Dayton leads the Atlantic 10 in shots (206), goals (26), points (78), and assists (26).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
MASSACHUSETTS

The Minutewomen are coming off a 1-0 victory over the Siena Saints last Sunday. Sophomore, Moa Mattsson, scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season. The win improved the Minutewomen to 5-5-0. Senior goalkeeper, Emily Cota had five saves against the Saints totaling her third shutout of the season. It was the 19th shutout of her career, tying Kelly Tuller (1978-80) for the No. 5 spot in the UMass record book.

RHODE ISLAND
Rhode Island defeated Albany 3-1 last Friday night. This win improves the Rams to 7-3-1 on the season. Jennifer Barrientos, Alex Ruggieri, and Maggie MacDonald all scored in the victory over the Great Danes. The Rams’ three losses are to Iona College, Holy Cross and Maine all by one goal. Ashley Evangelista is leading the team in goals with five. The Rams kick off Atlantic 10 play Friday, Sept. 28 as they face the Xavier Musketeers.
 
UP NEXT
The Flyers resume Atlantic 10 action Friday, Oct. 5 against Butler at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 7 at Saint Louis at 2 p.m. ET.

WRIGHT STATE REFRESHER
Dayton posted its first shutout of the season with its 3-0 victory over Wright State Sept. 14 at Baujan Field in front of 1,365 fans. Dayton leads the all-time series 21-4-2 vs. WSU and is 9-0-1 since 1996 against the Raiders. Senior Colleen Williams scored the game winner, and freshmen Nicole Waters and Ashley Campbell each scored as well. Junior Juliana Libertin and Alexis Garcia each had an assist for UD.

WILLIAMS SELECTED TO TOP 30 FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD
Colleen Williams  has been selected as a candidate for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award. She is one of 30 NCAA® women’s soccer student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as a candidate. Williams is the fourth UD women’s soccer player to be named to the Senior CLASS Top 30 since the award was started in 2007.
