#14/16 WBB TOPS INDY 84-58 IN EXHIBITION

Five Flyers Scored In Double Figures

DAYTON, Ohio - The nationally-ranked (#14/16) University of Dayton women's basketball team opened up the 2013-14 season with an 84-58 victory over the University of Indianapolis in an exhibition game Friday night at UD Arena in front of 1,056 fans on Military Appreciation Night.
 
Indianapolis started the game with a three pointer, but the Flyers responded with a 19-0 run to gain a lead they would not relinquish.
 
Sophomore Amber Deane led the way for the Flyers, finishing the day with a double-double, contributing team highs in points with 19 and rebounds with 13.
 
It was an all-around effort from the Flyers, as five players scored in the double figures.  Junior Andrea Hoover was the second leading scorer in the game with 16, while fellow junior Ally Malott had 14, sophomore Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova had 13 and senior Cassie Sant had 12.  Sant also had a double-double, finishing with 11 rebounds.
 
Indianapolis was led by Katy McIntosh's 16 points. Kelly Walter and Princess German each added 10 points.
 
 
There were definite signs of sloppiness in the game on the part of the Flyers, as UD finished with 26 personal fouls, including two players, Kelley Austria and Malott, fouling out of the game.
 
 
The Flyers dominated in all other facets of the game, finishing the day shooting 46 percent from the field, 25 percent from three and 73 percent from the free throw line.  Dayton also out-rebounded Indianapolis 53-34.
 
Dayton will now begin the regular season as they prepare for the Hawkeye Challenge in Iowa City, Iowa.  The Flyers will square off against the UC Riverside Highlanders on Saturday, Nov. 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
