Dayton came out a little cold in the first set, falling behind 8-3 to George Washington. UD was able to pull to within two, 13-11, on a Colonial attack error but the GW lead was soon back out at five, 17-12. A 3-0 GW run stretched the Colonials' lead to seven, 21-14, and Kelsey Newman's kill earned George Washington set point at 24-18. Another Colonial kill on the next play gave GW the first-set win at 25-18.

It was 4-1 in favor of Dayton in the early going of the second set after a George Washington attack error. Hannan's kill set the score at 10-3 in the Flyers' favor but the Colonials rattled off three straight to cut the lead to four, 10-6. Dayton used a 4-0 run to stretched its lead to nine, 17-8, and never looked back. The Flyers evened the match with their 25-10 win in the second set.

Chidima Osuchukwu gave GW a 5-2 advantage in the third set but UD rallied for six consecutive points to go ahead, 8-5, forcing the Colonials into a timeout. George Washington cut back the lead to two, 12-10, but another Dayton run pushed the advantage to 16-10. With another 6-0 run, the Flyers put the game out of reach at 22-11 and UD was able to get the 25-13 third-set win to go up 2-1 on GW.

The deciding set was a battle from start to finish with eight ties throughout play. George Washington was up five, 12-7, after back-to-back Newman kills but Dayton answered with seven straight points, on the strength of three kills from Turner, to go ahead, 14-12. The set was tied at 17-all after a Colonial kill but a double-block from Campbell and Jendryk earned the Flyers sideout. Another GW attack error gave UD the three-point, 22-19, lead but the set would be tied again at 23 apiece. It would take extra points but Dayton held on for the 28-26 win in the fourth set to take the match, 3-1.

The Colonials were led by Newman with 13 kills and Maddy Doyle with 13 digs. Emily Clemens was the team's primary setter with 41 assists.

Dayton will travel to Washington, D.C., on Thursday in advance of participating in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship to be held Nov. 22-24. George Washington will serve as host of the three-day event.
