Flyers Are The No. 1 Seed In the 2013 A-10 Women's Soccer Championship

The University of Dayton is the No. 1 seed at the 21st Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship, to be hosted Nov. 7, 8 & 10 at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va. Making a league-record 18th straight championship appearance and vying for its ninth overall A-10 Championship crown, the Flyers face No. 8 seed VCU in the first round this Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. ET. 

DAYTON'S A-10 BACKGROUND 
• Dayton has won the A-10 Tournament Championship more than any other team in the conference: eight times (1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011). 
• UD has also won or shared 11 Atlantic 10 Regular Season titles (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010,2013). The next closest is Massachusetts with five. 
• The Flyers are 23-8 all-time in the conference tournament. Their .733 winning percentage is the best in the conference. 
• Dayton has reached the finals 10 times and is 8-2 in the championship game.

HOW THE FLYERS STACK UP
Dayton went 3-1-0  this season and is 66-16-4 all-time against the teams in the field of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship.

THE SERIES 
• The Flyers are 0-0-2 all-time against VCU. The two programs first faced off during the 2012 regular season where the result was a 1-1 draw at Baujan Field. The following meeting in the 2012 A-10 Championships fell in favor of VCU as they advanced to the Championship Final on penalty kicks 3-0.
• This will be the first match the Flyers have ever played at VCU Sports Backers Stadium.

FLYER FACTS
• The Flyers are 12-5-1 on the season and finished 7-1-0 in Atlantic 10 action.  Three of the Flyers' five losses have been a one-goal difference.
• Dayton is 26th in the NCAA statistical rankings in scoring offense (2.31).
• Sophomore Ashley Campbell is ranked 19th in the NCAA for goals scored, tallying 14 goals so far this season and is 21st in points per game (1.82).
• Senior Juliana Libertin and sophomore Nicole Waters lead the A-10 and are tied for third in the nation in assists per game (.72).
• Dayton is outscoring opponents 40-18, including 21-7 in A-10 matches.

STREAK ENDER
The Flyers lost their first A-10 match of the season 2-0 to La Salle Nov. 1. It snapped UD's 10-match unbeaten streak. It marked just the second time this season the Flyers have been shutout. The Flyers suffered their first shutout in more than 21 months, a1-0 setback to Boston University Aug. 23. The shutout to the Explorers marked the first conference shutout against the Flyers since Oct. 16, 2011, a 1-0 loss at Richmond.

SHUTOUT RECORD
Dayton posted a program record six consecutive shutouts this season, starting Sept. 20 with a 1-0 win over Central Michigan and continuing through the first four conference games. UD outscored opponents 17-0 during this streak. 

OVERTIME WIN ON SENIOR NIGHT
Dayton congratulated the accomplishments of its five seniors Oct. 19 with a dramatic 3-2 overtime win over Saint Louis. Two of the three goals in the overtime win came from seniors.  Senior Stephanie Emery scored the game-tying goal in the 65th minute and senior Sarah Senoyuit scored the golden goal in the first overtime. 

FLYER SUCCESS 
The Flyers made NCAA Tournament Appearances in 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010 and 2011, advancing to the second round in both 2009 and 2010 and to the Sweet Sixteen in 2001. 

SUPER SENIORS
The Flyer seniors have a career record of 64-16-4, an .786 winning percentage, which is fifth-best in the nation behind Stanford, Denver., Marquette and Virginia. Information courtesy of CollegeSoccer360.com. The senior have won two A-10 Regular Season titles and two A-10 Tournament Championship titles and have made two trips to the NCAA Tournament.

30-UNDER-30 PROGRAM
Tiffany Hansen can add one more distinction to her list of accomplishments this year. She was selected from more than 350 applicants for the inaugural edition of the NSCAA 30 Under 30 program. An assistant coach for the University of Dayton women's soccer program, Hansen will participate in the NSCAA year-long education and mentorship opportunity which includes 15 male and 15 female coaches. This program, which was created earlier this summer, is dedicated to supporting fledgling coaches and fostering their growth at a crucial point in their vocation. Hansen was also recently invited to the prestigious NCAA Women Coaches Academy in Denver, Colo. the spring of 2013.

FANTASTIC FRESHMEN 
Dayton's freshmen have history of making an impact. The Flyers have had at least one respresentative on the A-10 All-Rookie team every year since it started in 2000.
• This year goalkeeper Elizabeth James is a two-time Rookie of the Week, and midfielder Erin O'Malley has started every match for the Flyers.
• Two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Ashley Campbell scored 12 goals and dished four assists, while Nicole Waters had five goals and two assists. Both were named to the 2012 A-10 All-Rookie Team. 
• In 2011, Kelsey Smigel notched 13 goals and five assists in 23 games with 15 starts. 
• In her freshman season in 2009, keeper Katherine Boone set the Atlantic 10 record for goals against average in a season at 0.41. Boone broke former Massachusetts and U.S. National Team goalkeeper Brianna Scurry's record.  Boone received the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year for her efforts.
