DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will play its final regular season games of the 2013 season this weekend with postseason implications on the line. The Flyers head to Massachusetts (4-11-1, 3-3-0 A10) on Friday for a 3 p.m. contest before traveling to Rhode Island (2-12, 0-6 A10) on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game in the season finale.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Flyers took on La Salle on the road last Sunday and left with a dramatic 3-2 double overtime win over the Explorers, evening UD's conference record to 2-2-2.
Greg Enstone and
John Howe provided goals in regulation while
Andres Acevedo scored the game-winner in the 106th minute.
ABOUT THE MINUTEMEN
UMass is 4-11-1 on the year and 3-3 in Atlantic 10 play. The Minutemen are coming off a pair of wins over St. Bonaventure and George Washington, and have won three of their last four games.
Through 16 games, UMass is second in the league in saves thanks to goalkeeper Nick Ruiz, who has 77 saves and a 1.68 goals-against average. Josh Schwartz is the team's leading scorer with five goals and four assists this season.
ABOUT THE RHODIES
Rhode Island is 2-12 overall and winless in the A-10, despite competing in a number of games. Most recently, URI dropped a 3-1 decision to Duquesne on Sunday. First-year head coach Gareth Elliott and the Rhodies host Saint Louis on Friday before UD on Sunday.
Matt Sykes leads URI with seven goals and 68 shots while Ryan Oakley has added three assists on the year. Thomas Spenser has made all 14 starts in goal and has a 2.05 goals-against-average.
CONFERENCE STATISTICAL RANKINGS
Dayton leads the Atlantic 10 in assists per game (1.69), points per game (5.94), scoring offense (2.13), total assists (27), total goals (34), total points (95), save percentage (.800) and winning percentage (.813). Individually,
Abe Keller is first in the A10 in assists per game (0.56), sixth in goals per game (0.44), second in points per game (1.44), and first in total assists (9) and total points (23).
Chris Froschauer is also No. 3 in goals against average (0.832) and No. 4 in save percentage (0.800).
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Earlier this season, Dayton was ranked in the NSCAA poll multiple times. The Flyers dropped out of the rankings, but reached as high as No. 18 nationally. They were also ranked in a number of other polls including Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer.
UP NEXT
Depending on the results from this weekend, the Atlantic 10 Championships will take place from Nov. 14-17 at Baujan Field on the campus of the University of Dayton.

Dayton junior
Amass Amankona picked up his first award of the season after being named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Sept. 30. The Ghana native scored two goals in UD's win over Loyola Chicago.
RACKING UP THE AWARDS
Dayton had four players recognized on Sept. 23 for their accomplishments on the field. Sophomore
Ryan Peterson was named Player of the Week by the Atlantic 10 while redshirt freshman
Rafael Gamboa was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. Senior
Abe Keller was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week as well. College Sports Madness named sophomore
Maik Schoonderwoerd Player of the Week also.
OFF TO A FAST START
Dayton jumped out to a 10-0 record at the start of the 2013 season and outscored opponents 28-7 on the year through the first 10 games. That marks the best start in school history.
HAUPT'S CONTRIBUTION
Flyer freshman
James Haupt earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 16 after scoring the game-winning goal for Dayton against Detroit. That goal also clinched a share of the MSU Tournament title.
SHAPING THE PROGRAM
UD men's soccer had 16 newcomers at this point in the season last year. The 2013 is different as the Flyers benefit from the experience of nine seniors and three graduate students.
WINNINGEST COACH
Head Coach
Dennis Currier became UD's winningest soccer coach in 2011 recording win number 66, surpassing former head coach Roy Craig who had 65 wins from 1988-1995. In addition, Currier's wins came in 130 games, which was 31 games less than Craig. Currier holds a .711 lifetime winning percentage with a combined record of 279-103-35.

This year's Flyer squad features 10 international players. Dayton has student-athletes from Canada, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Netherlands, Jamica, Costa Rica, Sweden and Switzerland.
