DAYTON HOSTS TEMPLE ON SATURDAY MORNING
Looking to extend its home winning streak to four, the University of Dayton Flyers face the Temple Owls on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU, carried by WHIO Radio and is available with live video, stats and audio at DaytonFlyers.com.
The Flyers, 13-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play, have been strong at home this season. Dayton has won three straight on Tom Blackburn Court and showcase a 10-3 overall home record. UD has been strong defensively at home, allowing just 61.1 points per game. Kevin Dillard has scored in double figures in 14 of his last 15 games. Devin Oliver, who is coming off an eight-point, 12-rebound performance versus Saint Joseph’s, has 10 double-figure rebounding games, the most in the Atlantic 10. UD’s five conference losses (four on the road) were all against teams in the RPI Top 100.
ABOUT TEMPLE
The Temple Owls enter the game 15-7 overall and 4-4 in the Atlantic 10. The Owls have lost four of their last five road games. Senior guard Khalif Wyatt continues to lead Temple and the A-10 in scoring with an 18.9 average. The reigning A-10 co-Player of the Week, who also tops the team in assists (4.0 apg) has been red-hot of late, averaging 25.0 points over the last eight games. Sophomore forward Anthony Lee (11.2 ppg, 7.7 rpg) and senior forward Scootie Randall (10.9 ppg, 6.4 rpg) also average double figures while ranking one-two on the squad in rebounding.
SERIES STUFF
Temple leads the all-time series 16-12, but the Flyers have won four of the last six meetings. Last year Dayton won at Temple, 87-77, snapping Temple’s 25-game winning streak at the Liacouras Center.
20/20 VISION
Kevin Dillard has scored 20-plus points in a game five times this season, two more than the rest of the Flyers combined. Vee Sanford, Josh Benson and Dyshawn Pierre each have one game apiece.
OTHER NOTES
• Dayton has won three straight home games against conference opponents. Dating back to last season, UD has defeated six of its last seven A-10 foes on Tom Blackburn Court.
• In Atlantic 10 games, the Flyers lead in 3-point field goal shooting (.431) and are second in defensive rebounding (28.4).
• Dayton finished non-conference play with 10 victories, the seventh consecutive year achieving 10-plus wins prior to Atlantic 10 action.
• In Dayton’s 13 wins, the Flyers are shooting .492 from the field. In the nine losses, the field goal percentage drops to .412.
• The Flyers are 7-0 this season when scoring 75 or more points.
• Overall, Dayton leads the conference in 3-point shooting (.384) and ranks third in defensive rebounding (30.2) and field goal percentage (.459).
• Kevin Dillard, a First Team Pre-Season All-Atlantic 10 selection, leads UD in scoring (14.9), assists (4.6), 3-pointers made (42), free throws made (90), free throw percentage (.874), minutes (32.2) and steals (27).
• Dillard, a Cousy Award watch list selection, is 10th in the A-10 in scoring, fifth in assists and fourth in free throw percentage. He has scored in double figures in 14 of his last 15 games.
• Dillard is also 30-of-30 in the last two minutes of the game this season at the charity stripe.
• Dillard has scored 20-plus points in a game five times this season, two more than the rest of the Flyers combined (Vee Sanford, Josh Benson & Dyshawn Pierre each have one apiece).
• Devin Oliver ranks third in the Atlantic 10 in overall rebounding (8.4 rpg). He also leads the Flyers with four double-doubles this season.
• Oliver has 10 double-figure rebounding games, the second-most in the Atlantic 10. He hauled in 12 rebounds versus Saint Joseph’s.
• When Oliver hits a three-point shot, Dayton is 6-1 this season.
• Josh Benson is producing at a similar clip as he did last season before his torn ACL. In 2012-13, Benson is averaging 10.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and shooting .545 from the floor.
• Vee Sanford has scored in double figures in six of his last seven contests.
• Sanford is shooting .833 at the free throw line, second-best on the team and seventh in the A-10. Sanford is also 20th in the conference in scoring.
• A telling individual stat to UD’s success is turnovers. Vee Sanford is averaging 1.4 turnovers per game in Dayton’s wins this year, and 3.4 in the losses.
• Dyshawn Pierre is UD’s third-leading scorer in conference action, averaging 9.5 points. He is shooting .538 from three-point range against A-10 opponents.
• Pierre had 10 points versus Saint Joseph’s, including an ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 play.
• In A-10 only games, Jalen Robinson is shooting 19-of-24 (.792) at the free throw line.
