REGULAR SEASON CHAMPS
>> #12/12 Dayton earned its first-ever Atlantic 10 regular season championship on Sunday with a 73-66 win over Saint Joseph’s Hawks.  A crowd of 5,288 at UD Arena cheered on as the Flyers became just the sixth Atlantic 10 team to finish the conference season undefeated. UD was led by sophomore Andrea Hoover’s 19 points and senior Sam MacKay’s 18 points and seven assists. Freshman Kelley Austria came off the bench to add 11 points with five steals. With its win over Saint Joseph’s in the regular season, Dayton is the only school in NCAA Division I to have both its volleyball (14-0) and women’s basketball (14-0) teams go undefeated in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

- UD’s defense had a season-high 11 blocked shots in its win over George Washington in the A-10 quarterfinals, which is second all-time in A-10 Championship history (only behind West Virginia’s 13 set in 1985 against UMass).

MORE ON THE FLYERS
- UD’s 14 A-10 wins is a UD record for the program. Their  27 wins breaks the program record since becoming NCAA Division I.

- UD lost seven seniors, including four starters, from the 2011-12 squad, but is replacing the loss with an impressive freshman class of six newcomers. This Flyer class is ranked 1st nationally for a non-BCS school, 31st overall and 1st in the Atlantic 10.

- The Flyers are currently ranked No. 18 in the AP Top 25 poll and No. 15 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

- Dayton is in its 18th season in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers have earned a berth to the tournament every year since joining the league.

- Dayton went unbeaten at home this season, and improved its home court winning streak to 13 straight, which is the seventh best in NCAA Division I women’s basketball.

- The Flyers defeated Fordham 68-57 on Feb. 10, 2013 to give UD Head Coach Jim Jabir his 400th career victory.  He is the 46th active coach to reach that plateau. Jabir owns a .539 career winning percentage over 26 seasons.

- The Flyers are in the Top 20 in SIX NCAA rankings:  7th in win-loss percentage (93.1), 9th in assists per game (16.9), 11th in scoring offense (75.4 ppg), 11th in scoring margin (+18.2), 18th in field goal percentage (.441), and Dayton’s RPI is 13.

- Flyers in the A-10’s Top 5: Freshman Amber Deane leads the league in field goal percentage (.559), while senior Sam MacKay leads the A-10 in assist/turnover ratio (2.0), and is second for assists per game (5.0). Sophomore Andrea Hoover leads the A-10 in three-point field goal percentage (.381). Freshman Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova is fifth in blocked shots per game (1.7).

- Dayton was listed as tied for 6th as the least-experienced team in the nation. The players on UD’s roster average just 1.0 years of experience.

- The Flyers have four players averaging at least 10.0 ppg: sophomore Andrea Hoover (12.2 - 12th in A-10) sophomore Ally Malott (10.8), senior Sam MacKay (10.3) and freshman Amber Deane (10.1). In Dayton’s balanced system, eight of UD’s 10 active players have led UD in single-game scoring this season.

- The 12-1 start in non-conference play was the best for the Flyers since becoming a Division I program in 1984-85 (equaling the best start in UD WBB history - the 1983-84 season when the Flyers went 12-1 to start, ended the season 27-4 and in the NCAA D-II National semifinals). As impressive as that is, it is even more so when you consider 10 of the 13 opponents UD faced in non-conference action this year, advanced to the postseason last year (3 NCAA, 6 WNIT, 1 WBI).

- The Flyers’ 15-game winning streak earlier this season (Jan. 12-March 9) was the 11th best in the nation at the time. It marked the longest winning streak for the Flyers since the 2006-07 season when UD rattled off 16 consecutive wins.

- The Flyers have only lost the battle of the boards six times this season, including three of their last four games.

- Dayton has beaten four BCS teams this season: from the Big East (DePaul), Big Ten (Michigan State), Pac 12 (Arizona State) and SEC (Vanderbilt).

- The Flyers have reached as high as No. 11 in the AP Top 25 and No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches Poll this season; both are program bests for the Flyers. UD has been ranked for 18 consecutive weeks. They are currently 18th in the AP and 15th in the Coaches poll.

- The Flyers lead the Atlantic 10 in 10 categories: scoring offense (75.4), scoring margin (+18.2), field goal percentage (.441),  field goal percentage defense (.354), 3-point field goal percentage (.343), rebounding offense (43.1), assists (16.9 per game), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1), defensive rebounds per  game (28.8), and three-point field goals made per game (6.7).
