Day 1 Results
The University of Dayton track team concluded day one of the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational Friday afternoon. Dayton scored 3 points placing them in sixth place. Action resumes again Saturday morning.
“The meet today was a great start to our outdoor season,” said head coach
Jason Francis. “Miranda Nelson was the highlight of day one with a big personal best in the hammer throw.”
Nelson was just short of a top five all time Dayton mark with a toss of 49.14m placing sixth. This earned the Flyers three points.
In the heptathlon Rebecca Maj and Katy Garcia competed for the Flyers. In the 100m heptathlon hurdles Maj placed sixth in a time of 15.08 while Garcia finished in ninth with a time of 16.01. In the high jump Maj finished in third with a jump of 1.65m. Garcia finished in a tie for fifth with a height of 1.62m.
“The two heptathletes are off to a great start for their first heptathlon of the year,” said Francis.
Garcia and Maj finished 11th and 14th in the shot put respectively with lengths of 9.24m and 8.91m. In the 200m dash Garcia finished ninth in 27.02 while Maj finished in 12th with a time of 27.81m.
“Both coaches and athletes are very eager to start competing after such a long break from our last competition,” said Francis. “I am excited to watch the rest of the team compete tomorrow and build on the successes of today.”
