SOFTBALL WELCOMES CHARLOTTE SATURDAY FOR A-10 DOUBLEHEADER

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team remains at home this weekend to play host to the Charlotte 49ers in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Saturday, April 6. First pitch is set for noon at UD Softball Stadium and admission is FREE!

Series Preview
• The Flyers and the Niners have previously met 15 times with Charlotte holding the 13-2 advantage in the all-time series. The last time the two squads squared off was in 2012.
• Dayton split its mid-week, non-conference two-game set against Toledo Wednesday. The Flyers took the first game 9-1 in six innings before dropping the nightcap, 10-5, to the visiting Rockets.
• Charlotte played intrastate rival North Carolina State on Wednesday, dropping both games of the twinbill, 2-0 and 10-3.

Recent Action
• The Flyers have gone 6-3 over their last nine games and had a four-game winning streak snapped last weekend at Saint Louis. Dayton has not lost two games in a row since dropping a doubleheader to Bowling Green on March 16.
• The 49ers are currently suffering through a six-game losing streak and Charlotte has posted a 2-4 record in conference play to date. The Niners’ doubleheader versus George Washington March 24 was cancelled.

About the Flyers
• As a team, Dayton is hitting for a .261 average (5th A-10) with a .445 slugging percentage and a .356 on-base percentage. The squad has hit 31 home runs on the season, third-most in the Atlantic 10, led by junior Kasi Vazquez with eight (t-3rd A-10). Vazquez’ .382 average leads the team (9th A-10) as does her 15 walks.
• The Flyers have a team ERA of 4.12 (7th A-10) and have tallied 172 strikeouts (2nd A-10) in 183.1 innings of work. Sophomore Kayla English has struck out 113 batters (1st A-10) this season while freshman Emily Froment holds the team’s low ERA at 2.73 (6th A-10) over 33.1 innings pitched.

Scouting the 49ERS
• Overall, Charlotte is posting a league-leading .318 batting average, a .370 on-base percentage, and a .465 slugging percentage. Briana Gwaltney leads the 49ers with a .388 average (7th A-10), 38 hits (3rd A-10) and 30 RBI (4th A-10).
• The pitching staff for the Niners holds a team-ERA of 4.16 (8th A-10) through 30 games. RHP Katie Watkins is Charlotte’s most frequent pitcher with 19 starts in 22 appearances and the team’s strikeout leader with 92 (3rd A-10). Her 3.85 ERA is second to RHP Chelsea Lisikatos’ 3.58 earned run average.

Last Meeting vs. Charlotte
• The Flyers closed out the 2012 regular season at Charlotte, splitting A-10 doubleheader with the Flyers by losing 4-2 and winning 6-4 on May 5.
