Head coach Jim Jabir announced that Saicha Grant-Allen signed her National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Dayton women’s basketball team.

Grant-Allen, of Hamilton, Ontario, was recently named to the Canadian National Junior Team and will be representing the country this summer at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women in Lithuania.

“Saicha is a great kid with a huge upside. She has a great build and can run the floor very well for her size,” said Jabir. “She has a chance to be a major contributor to our program.”

The 6-foot-5 power forward was named a 3-star prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz after averaging 25 ppg, 7 blocks per game and 8 assists per game for Glendale Secondary School. Grant-Allen played on Ontario’s National Championship Team and was named a 2013 JUEL First Team All-Star and All-Defensive Team selection, plus she was selected to play in the JUEL All-Star Game.

Grant-Allen also has extensive international experience.  She was a member of the 2012 Canadian Junior Women's National Team that competed at the FIBA U17 World Championship for Women in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Team Canada finished third, the first medal ever won at the age-group world championship level. Grant-Allen averaged 6.4 points along with a team-high 8.9 rebounds which were the fifth best in the tournament.

She participated at the 2012 3x3 Youth World Championships in Spain.

She was a member of the Cadette National Team that finished third at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Women in Merida, Mexico where she averaged 2.8 points and a team-high 3.0 rpg.

Grant-Allen is part of the UD incoming freshman class, which also includes Andrijana Cvitkovic, Celeste Edwards and Christy Macioce. The incoming class is ranked No. 20 in the nation by All-Star Girls Report, the highest ranking ever for the UD women’s basketball program.
