DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton volleyball head coach Matt Affolder has completed his staff with the announcement of Matt Girouard as volunteer assistant coach and former Flyer Samantha Selsky as director of operations.
Girouard, a 2013 UD graduate, will be assisting with scouting of opponents in addition to his on-court training responsibilities. He has spent the past two seasons with the team serving as a practice player in 2011 and a team manager for the 2012 season. Prior to joining the Flyers, Girouard spent three seasons playing men's club volleyball as a student at Dayton.
"I'm very happy that Matt has joined our staff as volunteer assistant coach," commented Affolder. "He has a passion for coaching and his assistance within our program over the past few years has been invaluable. He has a good background in our sport dating back to his prep years at Archbishop Alter High School. Matt has served many roles for us over the last two years and he has put in a lot of time to learn more about scouting and technology. I know he will be a great addition to our staff."
Selsky, also a 2013 Dayton graduate, is joining the staff after a stellar playing career as a Flyer. She will be handling team travel as well as our Free Kids Clinics throughout the season. A two-time Atlantic 10 Setter of the Year and AVCA All-American, Selsky finished her playing career at Dayton ranked seventh all-time in UD history with 2,468 assists. She led the A-10 in assists per set in back-to-back seasons, including ranking 16th nationally her senior year (2012) with 11.57 assists/set.
"We are thrilled to be adding Sam as our director of volleyball operations," Affolder said. "She has been a tremendous leader on-court for this program over the three years she has been in Dayton, and I know she is excited to be working with the players in her new position. Sam is a tremendous role model for our core of setters, and the work ethic she displayed that led to her becoming one of the top setters in the nation will be a tremendous asset to present and future Flyers."
