DAYTON MEN'S SOCCER PLAYS FINAL HOME GAME OF 2014

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will play its final home game of the regular season on Sunday when the Flyers host Fordham at 2:30 p.m. at Baujan Field. The men's game will follow the women's game vs VCU as part of a Dayton Soccer doubleheader.

Dayton is 6-4-5 overall this year with a 2-1-2 Atlantic 10 record. The Flyers have gone to overtime the last three games and tied 2-2 in double overtime their past two outings versus Saint Louis and Western Michigan. Head Coach Dennis Currier is looking for win No. 100 at Dayton on Sunday against the Rams. The Flyers have lost just once at home this season in seven games.

This year, the Flyers are out-scoring opponents at a rate of 1.73 goals per game compared to opposing teams' 0.93 average. UD has also compiled 25 assists on 26 goals compared to 10 by opponents on 14 goals. Junior Amass Amankona leads the team with five goals, six assists, and 16 points while  sophomores James Haupt and Brian Richards have four goals each. Goalkeeper Chris Froschauer is one of the best shot-stoppers in the A-10 with 51 saves, six shutouts, and a .785 save percentage.

THE SERIES
The Flyers have controlled the all-time series with a 10-5-1 record overall against Fordham. The Rams fought off the Flyers in 2013 however and picked up a 1-1 tie at Baujan Field. Amankona provided the goal for Dayton while an own goal evened the score for Fordham.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
FORDHAM

The Rams enter the weekend with a 5-8-2 record overall and a 2-3-1 A-10 mark. Fordham is fighting to hang on to one of the last postseason spots as they currently sit in seventh place out of the eight teams that advance. The visitors are led by 12th-year Head Coach Jim McElderry, who has guided the Rams to conference wins over La Salle and Saint Joseph's this season.

Fordham is averaging 0.80 goals per game and allowing 1.07 goals to opponents. The Rams are second in the A-10 in saves with 4.93 per game and commit the second fewest fouls with 8.20 each contest. Individually, Andres Penfold is the biggest offensive threat with seven goals on the year, thid best in the A-10. Goalkeeper Sean Brailey leads the conference and No. 14 in DI with 71 total saves.

LAST OUTING
Dayton hosted Western Michigan on Tuesday night and ended the non-conference portion of its schedule with a hard-fought 2-2 double overtime draw with the Broncos. Amankona scored and an own goal benefited the Flyers.

Fordham fell to Massachusetts Sunday, 2-0, dropping their A-10 record to 2-3-1. The Minutemen scored in the 7th and 20th minute to drop Fordham  in New York.

TOUGH SLATE
The Flyers have a challenging schedule in 2014, having already played teams that are currently in the Top 25 and more coming up this season. UD opponents that are currently ranked in the Top 40 in the RPI include Ohio State (22), Saint Louis (24), Davidson (26), UAB (27), George Mason (31), and Valparaiso (37). The Flyers are ranked 41st overall in the RPI rankings.

FLYER SUCCESS
The Dayton men's program has an overall record of 457-389-76 and three NCAA tournament appearances in its history. The Flyers are also 114-78-21 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and have six conference titles between the regular season and league tournament.

BAUJAN FAITHFUL
Dayton has had outstanding crowds to help with home field advantage this season and currently ranks No. 21 in average home attendance. The Flyers are first in the A-10 in that category and come in ahead of numerous prominent programs including Saint Louis.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS
The Flyers have been just as productive in the classroom as on the field, combining for a GSR (Graduation Success Rate) Score of 92. This total is the third best in the conference and tops in Ohio. On top of that, four Flyers have been nominated for Academic All-District in Ryan Peterson, Amass Amankona, Andrew Lightner, and Brian Bates.

DAYTON PICKED 4TH IN A-10
The Atlantic 10 Conference released its preseason poll and tabbed the Flyers to finish fourth in the league behind 2013 regular season champions Saint Louis, 2013 tournament champions George Mason, and NCAA Tournament participant VCU. Dayton was picked ahead of A-10 newcomers Davidson, Duquesne, and La Salle, who eliminated the Flyers from the A-10 tournament last season.

CURRIER'S IMPACT
The head coach of the Flyers has had success at every place he has coached. Dennis Currier is in his 10th year at Dayton and holds a career record of 287-108-41 in 21 seasons and a 99-59-29 record with the Flyers. His career winning percentage of .710 ranks fifth in the nation amongst active coaches, ahead of programs like Maryland, Stanford, UCLA, and Virginia.

UP NEXT
The Flyers will finish up the regular season next weekend in Philadelphia, Pa. as they take on La Salle Friday and Saint Joseph's Sunday in the Atlantic 10 finale. Dayton is in the hunt for the A-10 Tournament with next weekend being crucial to its hopes.
