DAYTON FALLS IN FIRST GAME, SECOND GAME STOPPED IN SEVENTH

BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Dayton baseball team played a pair of games against Fordham on Saturday, but only got one completely in due to poor weather conditions.

The Flyers fell to Fordham in the first game 6-3 and were tied with the Rams 3-3 in the seventh before weather stopped play.

Game 1 – Fordham 6, Dayton 3
Fordham took the initial lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Dayton senior Kuris Duggan continued his offensive assault with an RBI single in the second, to cut the gap to two runs. Duggan had three RBI for the Flyers in the opening game of the series.

Neither team added to their tally in the third and fourth innings as the defense and pitching settled into a rhythm.

The Rams struck in the bottom of the fifth with a single run, pushing their lead back to three, at 4-1. Fordham did so again in the sixth to make it a 5-1 ball game.

In the top of the eighth, Dayton began its comeback attempt with a two-run double by junior A.J. Ryan that bounced over the left field fence for a ground-rule double.

In the end though, Fordham was able to add to their lead and hold off the Dayton rally, taking a 6-3 win from the Flyers.

Starter Charlie Dant (3-3) suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. Relievers Nate Harris (1 2/3 innings) and Tommy Konrad (one inning) were effective out of the bullpen with shutout performances.

Ryan led the offense with a 3-for-4 outing and two RBI while Duggan chipped in the other RBI. The Flyers stole three bases in the game as well. Both teams left seven runners stranded.
 
Game 2 – Dayton 3, Fordham 3 (Play suspended in 7th)
In the second game of the day, the Flyers loaded the bases in the top of the first after having three players get hit by a pitch. Senior Robby Sunderman, junior Alex Harris, and sophomore Aaron Huesman were each given a free pass with just one out. Ryan then stepped up and launched a pitch to center for a double, scoring all three runners.

Dayton took a quick 3-0 lead over the Rams as it looked to take its second straight Atlantic 10 series.

Fordham scored a single run in the second to get on the board in the series finale. The Rams doubled their score total in the third with another run, narrowing the gap to 3-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Fordham tied the score up at 3-3 on a defensive miscue by Dayton.

Play was halted in the seventh inning by inclement weather. The umpires and coaches decided to suspend the game until 11 a.m. Sunday. The game will being with a 3-3 tie in the seventh.
