FLYERS BLANK RHODE ISLAND, 1-0

Box Score
DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team hosted Rhode Island for the second game of the series on Saturday and rode starting pitcher Noah Buettgen to a 1-0 shutout of the Rams.

Buettgen went all nine innings for the Flyers and needed just a single run of support to earn his fifth win of the season.

The Flyers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly by senior Kuris Duggan, which plated senior Ryan Berry and gave Dayton a 1-0 lead.

Both teams settled in defensively and hits were difficult to come by.

Through the first four innings of the contest, Buettgen allowed just one solitary hit.

Dayton had a few opportunities to add to its lead, but were unable to capitalize. Fortunately, the Flyers wouldn't need anything else as they held on for a 1-0 victory over URI.

The junior Buettgen (5-3) pitched his third complete game of the season, allowing just five hits and walking one while pitching a nine-inning shutout.

Dayton also had just five hits in the game, with two coming from senior Robby Sunderman and two from junior AJ Ryan.

The Flyers (15-17, 7-4 A-10) will finish up their series against the Rams on Sunday with an 11 am. scheduled start time.
