DAYTON FALLS TO SAINT JOSEPH’S, 3-2

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Dayton baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Saint Joseph's University on Friday.

After a Dayton win on Thursday, the Flyers were hoping to add another to their total on Friday. Defense continued to be strong as both teams struggled to put a run on the board through the first four innings.

Saint Joseph's took the first lead of the game in the fifth inning with a pair of runs.

The Flyers evened the game up and ended the shutout in the eighth with two runs of their own. Junior Sergio Plasencia hit a sacrifice fly to open up the scoring for UD before junior Alex Harris ripped an RBI double to right center for the Flyers' second run.

The score remained deadlocked at 2-2 heading into the ninth inning.  Unfortunately, the Hawks scored the deciding run with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth.

Starter Noah Buettgen (5-4) pitched his third straight complete game despite suffering the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in eight innings. The junior also struck out eight while walking zero in the effort.

Dayton recorded eight hits in the game, one more than the Hawks. Robby Sunderman and Plasencia had two hits a piece while Plasenica and Harris each had an RBI.

The Flyers (17-18, 9-5 A-10) will finish up their series at Saint Joseph's Saturday at 1 p.m.
