DAYTON BASEBALL BLANKS LA SALLE FOR 5-0 VICTORY

Box Score
DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team shutout the La Salle Explorers in the second game of the series on Saturday with an important 5-0 win. With four conference games remaining in the season, each contest is vital to Dayton's postseason hopes.

In the bottom of the first, the Flyers took the initial lead with an RBI single to right by junior Alex Harris, scoring senior Robby Sunderman for the 1-0 lead.

Harris doubled Dayton's lead in the third with an RBI double to left, making it a 2-0 contest. Sophomore Aaron Huesman continued the inning with a  two-run double to left, giving the Flyers a four-run advantage.

That score remained as Dayton starting pitcher Charlie Dant made it difficult for the La Salle batters to reach base. The Explorers recorded just two hits through the first six innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Flyers added another run to their lead with a sacrifice fly by Harris, his third RBI of the contest.

That would be all the runs Dayton would need to cruise to a 5-0 win over the Explorers Saturday.

Starting pitcher Dant (5-5) baffled the Explorer hitters throughout the game, as he allowed just four hits and struck out nine in the complete game shutout. It is the sophomore's third complete game and first shutout this season.

Offensively, Dayton was led by Harris, who had three RBI and a 3-for-3 outing, while Huesman drove in a pair as well. Sunderman chipped in a 2-for-4 day and two runs as well.

The Flyers (21-26, 12-11 A-10) will finish up their series with the Explorers on Sunday at 12 p.m.
