2014 NFCA Division I All-Region TeamsLOUISVILLE, Ky. - For their impressive performances on the field of play this season, 392 players from 158 different programs have been chosen to the 2014 NFCA Division I All-Region squads - including three members of the 2014 University of Dayton softball team. Junior
Tiffany Ricks (1B) was named to the Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team while senior
Alysha Isaacson (DP/UT-Non-P) and freshman
Gabrielle Snyder (UT/P) were named to the Third Team.
This is the first time in program history that three Flyers have earned All-Region honors, ahead of Sara Hatcher (P) and Tanya Leet (3B) who were named to the Great Lakes Region Second Team in 2000. Other past Flyers that have earned all-region accolades are Angie Barney (2B - 2003 Great Lakes Region First Team), Cassie Gross (OF - 2005 Great Lakes Region Second Team) and Lauren Nacke (UT/Non-P - 2011 Mid-Atlantic Region First Team).
Ricks lead the team and the Atlantic 10 with 69 hits and 184 at bats on the season while also ranking second in the league with 119 total bases and 207 total plate appearances and third with 44 RBI and 12 home runs. In addition to being named to the A-10 All-Conference First Team, Ricks also picked up All-Championship Team honors for her post-season play and she was named to the College Sports Madness A-10 All-Conference First Team.
Isaacson spent a good portion of the Atlantic 10 Conference season leading the league in batting average and finished 2014 with a .370 average. Her team-best 16 doubles ranked second in the conference and she also earned mention on the A-10 All-Conference First Team and College Sports Madness' A-10 All-Conference First Team.
Snyder was a triple threat this season for the Flyers as she not only pitched 125 innings with seven wins, four saves and 76 strikeouts, she also played right field and finished the season tied for second on the team with a .370 average. Of Snyder's 40 hits on the season, she recorded eight doubles, one triple and four home runs in her first season of collegiate softball.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
Three programs had all eight of their nominated players earn all-region accolades: No. 10 Arizona, No. 12 Oklahoma and Hofstra. No. 1 Oregon, No. 7 Georgia, No. 13 Michigan and No. 20 Notre Dame followed closely behind with seven selections each, while No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 6 Florida, No. 8 Washington, No. 18 Tulsa, Wisconsin and Purdue all picked up six nods. The eight-ranked Huskies and the 20th-rated Fighting Irish both reaped five first-team choices to guide the list in that category.
The 2014 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 28, via NFCA.org.
