DAYTON BASEBALL HEADS TO SEASON FINALE ON LOSS

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team suffered a 9-1 defeat at the hands of George Mason on Friday in the second game of the final Atlantic 10 series of the season.

The Patriots jumped ahead early on in the contest with three runs on four hits in the top of the first.

George Mason added to its lead in the third with a sacrifice fly. That made it a 4-0 contest.

The Flyers got a pair of hits in the bottom of the third to put a runner in scoring position, but was unable to cut into the deficit. They wouldn't put another on second until the seventh inning.

In the fifth, GMU continued its offensive assault with another run, putting UD in a five-run hole.

A solo home run in the seventh made it a 6-0 ball game in the Patriots' favor.

Dayton was finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to left by senior Kuris Duggan, which plated redshirt freshman Glenn Jones from second.

George Mason scored three more times in the ninth to seal the fate of the Flyers, sending Dayton to a 9-1 defeat.

Starter Noah Buettgen (6-7) was stuck with the loss after giving up six runs in seven innings while allowing nine hits. Reliever Tommy Konrad pitched a perfect eighth out of the bullpen, but gave up three more runs in the ninth.

Offensively, Dayton was out-hit in the contest 14-9 and left nine runners stranded. Duggan provided the lone RBI to go with two hits while senior Robby Sunderman had two hits as well.

The Flyers (23-28, 13-13 A-10) will finish up the regular season on Saturday with a 12 p.m. start time. Senior Day will take place before the game at 11:30 a.m.
